The
Tablecloth Hiring Company started out in 1997 as a small home based
business, servicing exhibitions at the Good Hope Centre. Deborah Donnelly,
the founder member, admits readily that the concept of the company,
as it is today was never planned…”one thing leading to
another and the need to feed 3 hungry mouths as a single parent”
was the story in a nutshell. She is an ex Psychiatric nurse with a
creative flair who describes herself as “becoming luckier
the harder she worked!” A love of colour and textures and
ignorance of industry standards also panned out well. From the first
days we offered all sorts of things, like velvets and organza’s
and next minute, these became the new industry standards with the
company leading and servicing most of the hiring industry in Cape
Town. When the company moved to Paarden Eiland in 1999, further expansions
were possible. An in-house laundry revolutionized service and still
runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All manufacture is also done on
site.
The vast showroom is a fun place to come browse and fine tune your
function. The “looks” are endless and the staff is very
experienced in assisting customers. The all women company is proud
about the in-house training and multi-tasking philosophy which has
transformed and uplifted many women to date. Almost 12 years down
the track, the company’s structure is poised for further expansion,
but customer satisfaction remains top priority.
